Overview
Claude is built on an auto-regressive Transformer architecture trained at immense scale on multilingual text, technical documentation, mathematics, and programming source code. Unlike standard RLHF models that rely purely on contractor feedback labels, Claude undergoes Constitutional AI training where the model evaluates and refines its reasoning against explicit ethical tenets.
With the release of Claude 3.5 Sonnet in June 2024, Claude achieved state-of-the-art results on SWE-bench (software engineering benchmarks) and introduced interactive Artifacts for real-time frontend rendering and document synthesis. In late 2024, Anthropic upgraded Claude with Computer Use capabilities, enabling direct desktop GUI navigation and automated tool execution.
